Quechua – from which the above is a translation of "Welcome to Peru! Our coffee is the best in the world – is one of the oldest still-spoken languages in the world, with professionals theorizing the language may have been spoken up to 5,000 years ago by native Peruvians (even before the rise of the Inca power, which was responsible for many of the amazing ruins we see, including Machu Pichu, pictured above).

Like the language, the lands of Peru are also ancient and at the same time breathtakingly beautiful. Mostly mountainous in the interior as the country is ridged by the mighty Andes range, it slopes down to the Pacific on its western flanks. Tropical weathers and high humidity provide fertile soils ideal for coffee growing, with beans being grown in Peru starting in the mid 1700s.
