As elegant as it is a classic. With its bitter coffee core balanced with a simple syrup, the Espresso Martini makes for a great pre-dinner aperitif or can easily accompany most any dessert treat. Easy to make as well! (There are several recipes available on how to make an espresso martini. This is our version.)
NOTE ON SIMPLE SYRUP:Â Recipe calls for simple syrup. Do NOT buy premade simple syrup. It is the easiest thing to make: combine 1 cup of sugar with one cup of water in a pot. Heat until sugar is dissolved and water is clear. Do not boil. Take off heat, cool. Should keep for several weeks in the fridge. Add just a splash of vodka to keep it fresh even longer.
Ingredients:
- 1-1/2 oz vodka
- 1 oz coffee liqueur
- 1 oz freshly-brewed espresso (our 6-bean espresso is perfect for this recipe!)
- 1/2 oz simple syrup (see note above)
- Shaved or powdered cocoa for dusting
- Optional: creamÂ
Directions:
- Throw some ice into a shaker. Pour ingredients over ice. Cover and shake well for a count of four-Mississippi. Using a cocktail strainer, strain into a pre-chilled martini glass.
- Optional: using the back of a spoon, slowly and carefully pour some cream over the top to create a layer. Add dusted chocolate and/or chocolate shavings.
